Gifts hold a special place in the social life of human beings. Gifts have the power to make a person feel special and wanted as they act as a tool for expressing ones love and emotions. Ideally there should be no specific reason for giving a gift. Whenever a person feels that his loved one is missing something he or she can give it as a gift to that person. A perfect gift should always cater to the needs of receiving person and it should also create a kind of emotional link between the giver and receiver, which means whenever receiver uses the gift, he or she can remember the person who has given that gift. Gift enhances the level of trust and goodwill between two persons. Due to these reasons, gift industry has become a multi billion dollar industry and it is still enjoying a double digit growth rate. Gifts can be divided into two types- (a) gifts that

are given on certain specific occasions like birthday gifts and graduation gifts and (b) gifts that are given keeping in mind some special interests of the receiving person. For example, a person who is fond of whisky can be given a Quaich (a two handled cup used for drinking whisky and brandy). For a person who is interested in metal items, pewter gifts and silver plated gifts are perfect.

• Special Interest Gifts- Many people have a habit of acquiring some particular kind of objects or products. Some like to procure wines and some like to accumulate things made of a specific metal. • Man gifts- Man usually like a gift that represents a masculine image. Any object related to men fashion and made up of a metal like stainless steel can do this job perfectly. Some of the best man gifts in this category are cufflinks, hip flask, toothpick folder and tankard etc.

 

•Baby gifts- The important factor while choosing a baby gift is the age of the baby. Since children’s can’t take care of themselves, special attention should be given to the safety issue. A baby gift should be absolutely harmless, both in terms of design and materials used. Some baby gift ideas are prayer book, first Bible, baby loop spoon, silver christening spoon and cup, napkin set, tooth fairy box, certificate holder and teddy keepsake box.

 Similarly, while choosing gifts for other occasions like birthday gifts, bridesmaid gifts and graduation gift focus should be on the person receiving the gift rather than on any thing else.
