Beat the challenges of online distance learning programs through these online distance learning tips
So you have decided which among various online distance learning programs you want to take and you are just so thrilled to get started. Before you sign up for a program, though, you must first recognize that online distance learning poses many challenges. Chances are you won’t meet your instructor in person. You may not even have classmates to discuss your thoughts on the lessons. However, you can make online distance learning work for you by acknowledging these challenges and not letting these stop you from succeeding.
Challenge #1 - Online distance learning can be unexciting in the absence of classmates.
How to beat it - You may have spent over a decade studying with a class so the online set-up may wear you out after some time. To combat this, enrol in synchronous online distance learning programs if your schedule will permit. Here you can interact with fellow students. You will all log in at the same time to meet with your instructor.
If you can’t enrol in a synchronous program, find a mentor or join an organization that can inspire you in learning more about your course. If you’re taking photography courses, for example, you can find a lot of shutterbug groups tha
t welcome new members. You can also apply as an apprentice for an established photographer or work in a photography studio.
Challenge #2 – Learning period is too flexible in online distance learning programs.
How to beat it – Sometimes, the very convenience presented by online distance learning programs becomes the problem. Because many online distance learning institutions allow students to finish the tasks at times convenient to them, some students slack off. Overcome this by establishing a study schedule and following it religiously.
Determine the best time for you to study. Make a calendar of assignments and write down study goals. Do not put off a schedule simply because your instructor won’t nag you anyway or you don’t have classmates to keep pace with. Also, have a dedicated study corner in your home where you can easily reach out for supplies and gadgets you need.
Contrary to slacking off, there are students of online distance learning programs who try to finish the course too fast that they tend to over extend themselves. Keep in mind that materials provided in online distance learning programs should be learned and not merely memorized. Have realistic goals when it comes to study periods and don’t forget to enjoy while learning.
