Manali to leh
Manali to Leh is adventurous and fun at the same time. Trekkers and photographers prefer this route. It has amazing landscapes and absolutely gorgeous mountains ranges. People take about three days to cross 5 passes in the entire journey. The route is beautiful and if it is your first time down this road then it is bound to create a kaleidoscope which will remain etched in your mind for a long time. So plan the journey that way and divide your journey into two days. The following is the route many people take. You drive from Rohtang which is at 52 kms. Rohtang is also known as heap of dead bodies. The moment you are out of Manali and have crossed Rohtang, you come to Marhi where you can stop for breakfast and then stop at Rohtang pass to get some great clicks. From this Pass, you pass to Kokhsar, where the roads are in sad conditions. Kokhsar is the place where foreigners need to register themselves. From here you move to Thandi. Roads here are also not that great. This is the place which has the petrol pump after which there are not any before you enter Leh. From Kokshar drive to Tandi and from there to Keylong. There is not many mobile network after this place. From Keylong you reach Darcha. Register yourself here. From Darcha to Sarchu roads are in a bad condition. Make sure you acclimatise here. You also cross Baralacha La, which is at 16,500 feet. When you enter Sarchu, the road conditions continue to increase. From Sarchu you go to Pang and from there Upshi. You can explore the Tanglang La and and then descent back to Upshi from where you can drive back to Leh. The roads in the entire Manali Leh highway are steep and all the bends are beautiful and snow laden.
